So you made it to an adulthood

that you cannot afford,

where the poles throw off

their graduation caps

and the ships all come unmoored.

I now present the state of an affair.

We have invented a digital au pair

and the pen has usurped the sword.

It is written into the code

that your dreams are at our fingertips.

We have eradicated the sullen sensation

of being bored.

With scores on scores of adequate,

truant minds,

vacant as the desk and chair

that they were to fill,

we’ll pump more content

into your eyes and stabilize

with Seraquil.

Don’t forget to take

your happy pill!

The bill is on and rolling down

the oceanside face of our capitol hill.

Where does the buck stop,

if it broke out of the nest,

and we haven’t developed avian collars yet?

I mean, come on!

At least I know I’m alive now,

and not when you weren’t supposed to touch

the mirror,

or when our batteries finally suckle

the last drop of old blood

from the dust and sleet,

and we have to jack into our once dormant

navel

to watch The Crown again.
